Windows 10 provides the latest and most amazing features that will help you to finish your work faster. One of the features that make Windows 10 a unique operating system is its ability to prioritize the running processes. The priority levels assigned to every program in Windows govern how much resource each program consumes when running simultaneously with another program. One of the best features of Windows 10 is the capability to change the priority of a running process.
Let’s be honest; there are times when we feel like allocating more RAM to a specific application while running many other programs.
Several things can be improved by allocating more memory to one’s running processes. Video conversion time can be shot down, lagging web browsers can be fixed, program installation times can be decreased, and more.
What is RAM?
Ram is a computer’s random access memory necessary for programs to run. Without it, you won’t be able to do much at all. This one of the most important parts without it the computer will not start. And unable to run those programs that required more RAM.
It allows your computer to access data far more rapidly than even the SSD can. You can think of RAM as temporary storage space for your computer. There will be more RAM requirements if you run too many applications at once rather than just using a few.
How to Allocate More RAM to Specific Programs On Windows 10
Allocating more RAM to a specific program is likely to increase its performance. For example, a video converting program could benefit from having more RAM to increase its efficiency.
You may also want to consider the fact that some programs are designed for greater RAM consumption than others, so allocating extra RAM to those programs allows them to operate more smoothly.
So here in this article, I am going to share how to allocate more RAM to specific apps on Windows 10 computers. Let’s check out.
Method 1. Using Task Manager
This is one of the easiest methods that you can use. In this method, you have to prioritize your application using a task manager.
You can assign additional RAM to an application by adjusting its priority in Task Manager. If you want to follow this method just follow the procedure which is given below.
Step 1. Start by right-clicking on the taskbar and selecting ‘Task Manager’.
Step 2. When Task Manager open. Right-click on the process which you want to prioritize and select the ‘Go to details’ option.
Step 3. On the Details tab, right-click on the process which is highlighted, and then select the option ‘Set Priority’.
Step 4. When you hover over the Set priority open you will see 6 options according to priority criteria which are Real-Time, High, Above Normal, Normal, Below Normal, Low.
Choose anything above normal, Above High, or real-time so that the program’s Priority goes up.
Step 5. After that Confirmation box Will Appear, click on the ‘Change Priority’ option to Save Changes.
You have done it. This is the simplest and easiest method of how you can use Task Manager to allocate more RAM to specific applications in Windows 10.
2. Provide the RAM requirements for each program Specifically
If you don’t want the priority method of task manager then try this one. In this method, you have to specify the amount of RAM for each program.
Before starting this procedure make a shortcut file to the desktop of a specific program.
Step 1. Choose an application that requires more RAM, and then right-click on it and select ‘Properties.
Step 2. Now select the ‘Shortcut’ tab.
Step 3. On the Target field, copy & paste this text at the end –disk-cache-size=2000000000 and then Apply and OK for save changes.
Note: “This allocate 2000000000 sizes is in bytes which is equal to equivalent to 2GB of RAM. If you required more than 2GB then set the byte’s value which is equal to a certain amount of GB but that should also in bytes”.
When allotting too much memory to a particular app, causes other apps to crash or trigger a few errors, but Windows 10 is typically pretty good at memory management.
That’s the end of this procedure. Please let me know if you have any questions about this. Let us know and we will provide you with more information about it.
